Getting to the truth of eating disorders

Driving home today, out of the corner of my eye I saw a tall, perky looking runner, with red hair-pigtails flopping around and it made me smile. I thought, “she’s got a lot of personality. Good for her.”

As I got closer, I was stunned to see that she was flesh and bones. Literally, flesh and bones. I could see the bones in her back, as if she was a skeleton. I was immediately saddened. Then I tried to get a look of her out of my rear view mirror to see her face and it confirmed everything I saw from behind – she looked emaciated.

Her image has stayed with me for hours and has prompted this Weekly Fuel to highlight the issue of eating disorders. I cannot relate to under-eating, as I am a wonderful over-eater, yet, are we that different?

I like this short overview The 5 Things You Need to Know About an Eating Disorder.” There are a lot of misunderstandings around eating disorders. It’s not about loving or hating food or being obsessed about your looks. It’s much deeper than that and not an easy thing to remedy. I hope you learn something from the article and think about people battling under/over-weight issues a little differently. Fuel up and have a super week.
