Be smarter than they think you are

Raise your hand if you are tired of hearing the negative and misleading campaign ads?

Raise your hand if you’re tired of seeing the bullying between our political leaders?

Me too! I am tired out and we still have 78 days to go until election day.

When I start to hear, “my name is ____ and I approved this message,” the mute button is hit on the remote, and I close my eyes or turn away from the TV because I am sickened by this process. I don’t like feeling like this, and I am getting annoyed just thinking about it. So, my fuel for you this week is to TURN IT OFF.

In reality, there is very little benefit to you watching and listening to the ads. In my opinion, the ads are geared toward the non-educated voters who “fall for” the misquotes and non-contextual information. I know you’re smarter than that. Republican, Democrat, Independent, Liberal, Conservative, it doesn’t matter, misleading and false information is shared universally across party lines and TV networks.

Also, watch out for the news media. Just because the person has a suit on, doesn’t mean they’re presenting facts. With the 24 hours news cycle on TV and the Internet, there is more news being “made-up” than being reported.

I recommend you keep an eye on the League of Women Voters website. It’s a nonpartisan group that educates and registers voters, as well as works on improving the election process and government. Take the high road, avoid the negativity, educate yourself and incorporate some meditation to keep your sanity. Hang on, 78 days to go!

  1. I’m raising my hand! The political media issue reminds me how important it is to not believe everything we hear. Check the facts and check the source.

  2. Amen! Thanks for the reminder about the League of Women Voter’s web-site. I forgot about them as a resource.
