Harvesting what you sow

This past weekend I ventured back to Canada to spend time with my Mom. I arrived at the airport and was checking in at the kiosk when I overheard a woman explaining to the ticket agent her dire situation. It seems she was booked on a flight to Washington however she lacked the twenty five dollars  to check her bags. She had lost her purse and only had in her possession her check book and passport. After checking with a fellow agent it was determined that a check was not going to cut it. I interjected and volunteered to give the individual the cash. Once the agent heard this he said he would wave the fee. All was well.

What happened next  was the icing on the cake for me. She pulled out of her suitcase a small card which read “Peace Be With You.” On the back it read,”You are my Hero.” She explained that she had just received it and was passing it forward. We hugged…and that hug was so special. It was like affirming the human connection and the joy of giving and receiving. Here was this stranger I had never met who made me feel so incredible, so light and so glad to be alive  by saying thank you. It’s true what they say that you reap what you sow, aka you harvest what you  sow.

As I continued to the baggage checkout the same agent was attending to me and as I was leaving he said, “wait…here I want to give something,” and he handed me some coupons for free drinks. The cycle continued!!

Give freely to others

Later that day I was judging myself for not giving her the cash regardless. Knowing that judgment only produces issues to heal I re-framed the thought for myself…now she has the opportunity to let someone else open their heart and be giving, and she can receive even more. After all, we cannot receive without giving, and we cannot give without receiving. Check out the book 29 Gifts by Cami Walker for further inspiration.

May you go forth today with the intention to give freely. Whether it is a smile, a quiet blessing, a free coffee for the person behind you…whatever, whenever, however so you may pass along the light and joy I received that day. Be aware what you harvest in return!
