Consider the SPA (Stop. Pray. Apply.)

We all have our beliefs. Some believe in God and some don’t. I do believe in God and here is my Christian perspective. No matter what you believe, this blog is about opening your heart and taking steps to care for yourself.

No cell phones, please

Sometimes I feel like walking into one of those gorgeous spas, without an appointment, just to smell the freesia candles and lavender lotions. I imagine walking into the “quiet room,” slipping off my sandals, picking up my cucumber-infused water, and just listening to the bubbling water flow through the pile of smooth, round stones on the table next to my armchair.

The energy and tranquility in a spa’s “no cell phones, please” zone slows everything down…blood pressure, breathing, thinking. I’ve taken time to stop being busy. I don’t have to be in charge.

I’ve learned that “no cell phones, please” works for God, too. He does not ask me to be busy all the time. He wants to sit with me. Talk with me. Replenish my energy and nourish my spirit. He invites me to the SPA: Stop. Pray. Apply.

The SPA

Have things gotten a little crazy for you these summer months? Perhaps you’d like to join me at the SPA—where we sit in the sweet fragrance of His love. We listen to His calm voice as He reminds us how much He loves us. We drink from His life-giving water.

At this SPA, we…

Stop.
Pray.
Apply.

When life is overwhelming, we can STOP fussing and fretting and breathe deeply.
Rather than whining, we can PRAY. Ask God what He wants us to do.
And then…the hardest part for me…we can APPLY what He tells us to do.

Trust the SPA experience

I’ve learned I can trust this SPA experience. It is life-enriching.

“Be still, and know that I am God.”  (Psalm 46:10)

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

“…everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock…[the house] did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”  (Matthew 7:24)

I love the spa that helps prepare my callused, winter feet for summer sandals.

But I really love the SPA that takes care of my heart.

  1. Wonderful article, Gaye! I wish unbelievers could, at the very least, give faith a chance, a tiny crack that could prove to be the key to a joy they’d been missing. My life took a wonderful 180 the moment I decided to test whether there wasn’t something more meaningful in life than simply existing, working, having fun and paying bills. The risk is worth it — nothing to lose, the ability to seek and hear from one’s Creator, and an eternity to gain!

    • Laura, thank you for your note! And thank you for sharing a piece of your faith journey. Yes, my life certainly changed when I realized how much God loves me, and how much He desires for me to live a full and rich life. He is the source of my joy, my purpose, and my peace.
