It’s so easy to look at your reflection and start picking out the things you don’t like. Accepting your body type isn’t easy…but let’s take a look at that work ‘accept’. It means ‘to find favor or approve of.’ Acceptance is not perfection. I think we get the two confused.
Looking in the mirror, we so want that flawless reflection. It’s easy to to think that anything less than perfect just isn’t good enough. Which leads right into constant rejection of ourselves. And this is a horrible place to be. We are so so harsh, critical, and mean to ourselves. Would you ever say those words to anyone you cared about? Way deep down, I care about myself, and so do you.
Break through the beauty industry’s brainwashing
So let’s stop looking for what we simply cannot achieve. How? By repeating this following sentence: None of us will ever have a perfect body. Now read it again and again and again. Speak it aloud, write it down, tape it to the fridge. Whatever it takes to break through all that brainwashing done by the beauty industry.
Each one of us knows perfection is unattainable, but we continue to look for flaws. So I repeat: To accept yourself is NOT to see perfection.
Take pride in your uniqueness
You can accept things that aren’t perfect. Why can’t that include your body? Flaws are what give us our unique features. Flaws are what makes you stand out among the billions of people in this world! Think about that for a minute. There will never ever be someone like you again. Why reject that? Why not take pride in being so…you?
It does take time to break old habits, just as it takes time to build new ones. But there’s nothing to stop you from taking that first step. Don’t wait for the New Year or Monday to start, do it now! Repeat after me: I accept my imperfect body, I accept my imperfect body, I accept my imperfect body…

Nice article. Being more kind to ourselves – especially in front of mirrors – is a skill that should be taught at an early age.
