So what am I passionate about? Ever since I can remember, I have been intrigued with health. Once in college (and able to actually choose my classes!) I took everything from anatomy to psychology to learn more about the human body and how to be healthy. It was like I couldn’t learn enough! After my degree in health psychology, I became a personal trainer, a massage therapist, a yoga and pilates instructor, and I also teach nutrition classes.
Then I broke my tailbone rollerblading, and my life changed. Everyday I was in pain, my lower back felt like it was on fire. And I was only 25 years old! You could still classify me as ‘healthy,’ but the joy was slipping out of my life.
Practicing what I preached
I experienced how pain is emotionally draining, making it easier and easier to let my world become small. Now it was time to practice what I had been preaching. I had learned that muscles, tendons, ligaments can heal with three key ingredients: body work (massage, chiropractic care, acupuncture…) exercise, and proper nutrition.
Over the next 3 years, as my pain lessened, my energy and excitement for life grew. I can still remember realizing how much more amazing life is when I didn’t hurt. That’s when I partially tore a disk in my mid back! This time I knew how long the uphill battle would be, but that I could also do it. Again, a few years later, I emerged stronger than ever and all pain gone.
Achieving a healthy balance
My passion is to help my clients achieve a balance in those three areas. My massage clients usually need a reminder about nutrition and exercise, as my nutrition students need a refresher about exercise and body work. So how about you? How is the balance in your life? What chance can you make today?
